I hate winter

Most of our football matches have been called off due to the
state of the pitches, even our match against Birkdale GFC in
sunny Southport was called off. I bet Stevie Gerrard wished
his night out in Southport had been called off now.

Played a tournament for North West Girls which we won
I played right back as we had some injuries and no one to
cover that position.

A good football training skills drill:

Stand in front of the goals inside the six yard box, do
around 30 keepie ups occasionally kicking the ball
over head height.
Kick the ball over the cross bar and sprint through
the goals and try to control it on your foot before
the ball hits the ground.
Get the ball under control go through six cones
slalom style turn at the end and from around 20
metres out try to hit he post with a pass.
Run through a ladder drill back towards the goal
and repeat.

I am usually successful in controlling around
4 out of 5 when I lob the ball over the crossbar

Athletics update

Still running up hills using weighted rucksacks (see earlier
post for the drill). Due to the weather I have been doing
most of my fitness work on the treadmill at the JJB gym
which is great value for students.

My Athletics coach as been killing me with sprint drills
and I ran an 800m time trail in 2:11 on a slippery track
so I can't wait for summer, I feel I can run under 2:08
if I can stay injury free.

My plans for the summer
I have already been invited to train with Liverpool LFC
and Everton LFC it just depends on transport and other
things.

I hope you have a good and healthy New Year

Weekend Football

I had loads of work to do for college over the weekend only just
managing to sneak out for a quick jog of around three miles.

We had to travel to Preston for our footie league game against
Penwortham Girls U17. Ten minutes into the game I manage
to lift the ball past the goalie into the net only to have the ref
disallow it. The goalie kicked my foot and I still have the
swelling to prove it. A quick blast of freeze spray and I can
still run on it.

Half time, we are three nil down and my foot is killing me.
Our team suddenly decide to wake up and I manage to
score three goals. Only I get kicked on the other foot, not
my day really. The final whistle goes and we are level at
3-3.

Arrive home and my feet go straight into an ice bath, I
have got no chance of training on Monday. Athletics
will training will just have to wait until Wednesday.

I have Limped to college for the past two days and I
feel a bit sorry for myself. My college sports coach
as just given me some great news that puts a smile on
my face. I have been selected to play in the center of
midfield for the North West Counties side. My dad
says I will have to choose between football and athletics
one day. It's going to be a difficult choice because I love
both sports.

Football trials and extra training

I mentioned in the previous post about the North West County
football trials being called off. Well they were rearranged for the
09/10/2008.

About 40 girls took part, some of my friends from Man City
attended and it was good to see them (I had to stop playing
for City due to lack of transport). The City under 14 girls
team I played for was probably one of the best teams in
the country. We won the International Umbro Cup in 2006
and just narrowly lost 1-0 in the final of 2007 to an older
Liverpool side.

In the trials I played in midfield and on the right wing. I
managed to score six goals. I don't think I played my
best footie; but I think I played well enough to get picked.
We will just have to see, I will let you know how I got on
when the coach informs the college.

We are still on a break from Athletics I can't wait to get back
into training, I have bought a big carton of Gatorade and
knowing our coach I will definitely need it.

On Friday I trained with my other coach, my worst nightmare,
my dad, only dad's can treat you this way. So if you want to
improve your finishing speed then read on.

Extra training:
Warm up jog to the place of torture, around 2 miles in dad lingo.
Run 6oom to bottom of hill near to race pace, sprint up hill, easy
as that. (suffer heart failure and ring ambulance)
Hang on you didn't think that was it did you, no way.
Walk slowly back to dad, who is smiling holding rucksack in hands.
He says "While your tired, I'll help you put the rucksack on." Bless,
my dad's so caring.
Sprint up the hill around 75m with 5 kg in the sack.
Walk or crawl slowly back and repeat 3 more times.
Have a drinks break, drink 3 gallons of Gatorade and collapse.
Jog 2 miles back home as a warm down

Has anyone got the number for the prevention of
cruelty to athletes.

Football trials called off

I had been selected to go for North West Counties football trials, only due to the weather they were called off. I would have liked to try out for England but as I seem to spend most of my spare time training for the 800m I decided their wasn't enough time in a day.

One day I would love to play for England Ladies, I even heard they were entering the 2012 Olympics, so who knows if the athletics doesn't work out you might see me in an England kit.

We had a football match today, the pitch was more suited to the 200m butterfly stroke; but who cares at least we got a game. We played Wakefield Villa and we won 15-0, I scored 5.

Back in training

Ran for about 30 min's before college this morning. The weather was absolutely terrible, I stopped trying to dodge the puddles after a couple of minutes. I don't know why but the advert were the car keeps splashing pedestrians and then suddenly sinks slowly into a large puddle until the blaring sound system splurges it's last bass beat keeps going through my head.

Our footie match in Morcambe was cancelled due to the weather and I decided to come home early to prepare for training tonight, I have got a feeling it is going to be bad, but training is better than listening to dad moan about his cable bill and the price of gas. Come on Gordon Brown do something about the fuel prices and maybe my ears will get a rest.

I don't beleive it my lame brother as took the last of the Gatorade I bought, and Iam left with either water or Lidl juice.

Anyway I will let you know how training went later.

A boring two weeks

We are currently near the end of a two week break from athletics. I can't wait to go back. My coach as also banned me from the gym, he says my body needs the rest and anyway it will be a bigger shock for me when I start winter training. My coach is in the same club for dictators as my dad. Can't wait! Dark cold nights when you can hear the water sloshing about in your spikes, lovely.

My dad is still trying to find me some cross country events to enter. No here love I've got you an iPod; but look what I've got for you Emma a lovely slog through 6 inches of thick mud. Caught a glimpse of him altering my rucksack in the shed which means hill climbing. Running up a steep hill as fast as I can with around 5Kg of weight in the sack. Anyone got the number for the RSPCC.

Played footie for the college we beat Preston 8-0 and I scored two.

See you soon Emma.

Week ending 14 Sept 2008

Firstly, I would like to congratulate Shelly Wood's on her bronze medal I have watched her train and believe me she really deserves it. When I told my dad she had to rerun her race and she had lost her silver medal his reply was, puts on gruff voice "If she tries a bit harder she might get a gold next time." You see what I have to put up with. Dad's eh you can't kill em!

College is going OK, I am taking 4 A levels, English, History, PE and Physiology. I really would like to be a professional athlete; but I would settle for being a teacher.

Footie training on Tuesday and athletics training on Wednesday and Thursday. Thursday was a good session. Started off with a gentle 2000 meter warm, core strength exercises then 8 200m with just a slow walk back in between.

Finally today we beat Burscough 5-1 at footie.

2008 winter training starts

Our footie game was called off so I went to the JJB gym. Had a nice 5000m warm up then did 6 20 seconds flat out on a 5 deg incline with only 20 seconds rest between them. Sometimes I hate my dad.

Monday 9th September 2008
Started winter training I think our coach is still thinking about his holidays. Completed 4 x 1600m and all I could think about was the crusades. Oh why did I choose to take an history A level.

My dad's currently busy trying to find me some cross country meets to take part in. So considerate my dad. Oh and dad I still need some new spikes, and try to move your head when you open your wallet don't want any moths flyin up your nose eh!

I don't usually take much of an interest in politics but I think Gordon Brown is getting a bit desperate all that handshaking with the British Olympic Athletes. I hope his hand isn't to sore to put in his pocket and dish out some cash for the athletes competing for GB.

My brother is also convinced he is going to meet Jeremy Kyle at the job center after hearing on the radio that the Labour party are considering using him to get people back into work.

So dad get your wallet out and don't sprain your wrist!

Training 28 Aug

I am a bit late with this update as I can barely walk. I think my coach had a really bad holiday involving lot's of rain and mossies the size of airplanes.

We did 8 400 m with 2 min rest and finished off or should I say he finished us off with six 50 m sprints. Switching to Gatorade as definitely sorted out the stomach cramps. Oh and the bus came.

Don't have to pay 13 quid anymore as I got the points required and I am now officially an A level student.

I was asked to to play Basketball for Wigan in the Street Games tournament at Sportcity. I haven't played Basketball for a couple of months being a bit busy with footie and athletics.

Anyway the competition was divided into 2 groups and the games were 6 Min's long and to my surprise we won beating Newham in the final 4-3. I love Basketball but I don't have the time or the energy to play it much.

Stayed in bed for most of the day on Saturday, very boring!

Sunday 31 Aug Ran 5 miles on the treadmill and then did 3 * 30 secs flat out at a 5 deg incline.

I started college today but that's for another post

Training Cancelled 26 August 2008

Training was cancelled due to the bank holiday. Went to the JJB Gym instead. Started with 4 miles gradual warm up on the treadmill followed by 4 times 30 seconds flat out on a 5 deg incline.

Moved on to the weight machines and did some extra work on the legs pressing 80kg then 100kg. What a relief the sauna felt great, I can't help noticing the large blister on my little toe.

Note to dad I need some new spikes!

The stomach aches have gone since I switched energy drinks, I now use Gatorade it doesn't taste to great but eh you can't have everything.

The bus didn't come again 13 quid for a pass and I am left standing on my own again. Perhaps I should stick my trainers on and run it.

The Long Haul

The Beginning

It is Sunday morning 8:00am on the 24th August 2008, the last day of the Olympics. I am getting ready to go to the Gym. I will start with a warm up on the tread mill and then move onto the weights. You may well ask why am I going to the gym at 8:00am on a Sunday morning. Well I want to run for GB or play football for England ladies.

I am 16 years old my name is Emma and my best time this year for the 800 meters is 2 min 18 seconds. I have only been running for 1 year as I used to play football for Manchester City Ladies.

London being awarded the 2012 Olympics is a great honour for everyone and I decided to start
this blog as a diary for my ups and probably many lows over the next few years as we aproach the start or our Olympics.

Thanks Emma.
