Most of our football matches have been called off due to the
state of the pitches, even our match against Birkdale GFC in
sunny Southport was called off. I bet Stevie Gerrard wished
his night out in Southport had been called off now.
Played a tournament for North West Girls which we won
I played right back as we had some injuries and no one to
cover that position.
A good football training skills drill:
Stand in front of the goals inside the six yard box, do
around 30 keepie ups occasionally kicking the ball
over head height.
Kick the ball over the cross bar and sprint through
the goals and try to control it on your foot before
the ball hits the ground.
Get the ball under control go through six cones
slalom style turn at the end and from around 20
metres out try to hit he post with a pass.
Run through a ladder drill back towards the goal
and repeat.
I am usually successful in controlling around
4 out of 5 when I lob the ball over the crossbar
Athletics update
Still running up hills using weighted rucksacks (see earlier
post for the drill). Due to the weather I have been doing
most of my fitness work on the treadmill at the JJB gym
which is great value for students.
My Athletics coach as been killing me with sprint drills
and I ran an 800m time trail in 2:11 on a slippery track
so I can't wait for summer, I feel I can run under 2:08
if I can stay injury free.
My plans for the summer
I have already been invited to train with Liverpool LFC
and Everton LFC it just depends on transport and other
things.
I hope you have a good and healthy New Year
